Meet The Owners

Joanne Wearing and Danielle Brown (Mother & Daughter) took over the shop in November 2006, formerly known as Caboolture Sewing Machines & Patchwork.  Since then the shop has transformed into the busy hub that it is today.  Our priority is to provide comprehensive advice on all things sewing while creating a fun and inviting atmosphere.

Joanne trained formally as a Registered Nurse but has sewn for as long as she can remember.  She held her own dress label for many years which eventually focused specifically on Bridal and Formal Wear.  Joanne has always been interested in the craft of sewing from needlepoint, heirloom, embroidery, dressmaking, patchwork & quilting.  Due to her talents she acts as the Advanced teacher in the store, offering her students challenges and making them think outside the square! Joanne sews on a Husqvarna VIKING Diamond deLuxe Sewing, and Embroidery Machine, Husqvarna Sapphire Sewing Machine, a Babylock Overlocker, a Handi Quilter Quilting Frame, and EQ7 Software.

Danielle enjoyed a 12year career in Banking and Finance before taking on the challenge of the sewing industry.  She was taught to sew as soon as she could handle a machine and started out by making her own clothes.  Patchwork became an extension of that hobby and she loves the technical and computer side of Machine Embroidery.  Danielle loves more contemporary sewing and finding new gadgets & products to excite her customers.  Danielle sews on a Bernina 83o Sewing and Emboridery Machine and uses Bernina Software, Husqvarna 5D Software and EQ7 Quilt Designer Software.

Meet The Rest of The Team

Penny is our Store Manager and has been in the patchwork industry since she started with Sew This & That in 2007.  Coming previously from Spotlight and having a natural talent for colours and calculations, she loves to help pick colours and work out fabric requirements.  While she can do just about any kind of sewing, what she loves doing most is creating odd things like costumes.  She also enjoys digitizing and pattern making. Penny sews on a Brother Sewing & Embroidery Machine, Janome Overlocker and Janome Coverstitch, and uses Brother PE Design Software and EQ7 Quilt Desing Software.

Cheryl has been with the store since 2000 and in the industry for over 20 years.  Her mum was a keen sewer so Cheryl learnt at a young age but became serious when she started working at Sckafs fabrics.  Cheryl is our Sewing Club presenter and enjoys creating the club projects and home decor items.  “I mostly enjoy working in an industry that the customers have a great passion for. To share their enthusiasm & swap ideas.”  She also teaches many other sewing classes including Beginner’s Patchwork, Beginner’s Overlocking, and many of our free New Owner’s Lessons.  Cheryl sews on a Janome Sewing Machine, Janome Embroidery Machine, and a Babylock Overlocker and Coverstitch.

Sandra has been with us since 2007.  Her first patchwork class was at the age of 17.   She didn’t enjoy the class at first, but then she invested in a new sewing machine that was up for the task and found that sewing was far more enjoyable.  “I enjoy all aspects of sewing, I think that my drive is creating. I really enjoy seeing ladies improve their skills and the sense of achievement they experience is priceless.”  Sandra teaches many of our New Owner’s Lessons, and New Owner’s Embroidery Lessons. Sandra sews on a Brother Sewing and Embroidey Machine, a Janome Embroidery and Sewing Machine and a Janome Overlocker.

Cath has been sewing since she was old enough to sit in front of a sewing machine.  Originally from Sunshine Coast Patchwork and Sewing, and joining the Sew This & That team in 2009, she has expanded her vast amount of machine embroidery knowledge and is our Embroidery Club presentor.  Also teaching Free Motion Workshops, Embroidery Workshops, and Diamond, Pffaf and Quattro Clubs, and Husqvarna 5D Professional classes.  Cath has great all-round sewing tallent.  Recently creating the work featured in the published Daylily Dream and Golden Hearvest books, Cath has also has her Sew This & That projects featured in Creative Expressions magazine.  Cath sews on a Husqvarna Sewing and Embroidery Machine, a PFFAF Sewing and Embroidery Machine, and uses Husqvarna 5D Software.

Natalee is one of our 2 juniors, and started her relationship with Sew This & That doing a Kids Sewing class when she was almost too little to reach the pedal.  Becoming part of the team in 2010, she has an enormous amount of general sewing knowledge, as well as machines, embroidery and notions.  Natalee has an huge sewing and embroidery machine which she would use more if she wasn’t studying so hard at school.  Natalee sews on a Brother Sewing and Embroidery Machine.

Teala is our second junior, working with Sew This & That under a school-based trainee-ship.  She loves to sew and as a large portion of her trainee-ship studies is machine embroidery, she has lots of knowledge on stabilizers and needles.  She too has a big sewing and embroidery machine at home, and she tries to use it as often as she can.  Teala sews on a Brother Sewing and Embroidery Machine.
