A Very Merry Christmas Party!!

What a great night!

Thank you to all our fabulous ladies that made our first (of many) off-site Christmas Parties a night to talk about.

We have received so much great feedback, it has already got us making plans for next year – with some ladies already making sure that their seat is saved!

The night started with a welcome and review of the events of 2009 and then a ‘Sneak Peek’ of the events coming up in 2010.  Most ladies got to see themselves ‘on the big screen’ with our photo slideshow of over 180 photos from the 2009 year.

Enjoying a lovely two course meal, we were then privileged to have Martin Wright share his interesting story with us and the history of his introduction to Patchwork & Quilting.  This was great to have this insight from a published male quilter, especially game in a room full of women – he certainly held his own!!

Then it was competitions and prizes galore – see Page 7 for the full list of winners from the night.  It was amazing to see how many had gone to the trouble of making themselves a garment (some running late to get it finished in time!!) and others bringing along their custom made handbags.  Thank you for going to the trouble ladies, it certainly made the decision making difficult!

Then the most anticipated part of the evening – the Auction.  With over $2000 of goodies to bid for, the competition was ripe from the start of the night.  Many ladies doing a lot of ground work to earn that extra cash that the staff hung on to.  The crowd got so rowdy at the end we had to hold the auction to verify cash!   It was obvious that everyone had a great laugh and some even ended up with some great (long coveted) auction items!!

Congratulations ladies & Thank you again for making the Christmas Party such an amazing success.  What was most enjoyable for us, was that all the staff were there to enjoy it without the interruptions of a shop to run!

Welcome Cath Quinlan to the Team!

Catherine Quinlan

Catherine QuinlanWe are proud to welcome Catherine Quinlan to our team.  Some of you may already know her and her exceptional work and we are sure you will make her feel welcome.  Cath’s obsession began approximately 5 years ago when she bought her first embroidery machine from her Mum (also Catherine) at a special ‘mates rates’ buy.  Cath convinced her Mum that the only way to learn how to use their machines was to do a quilt, and after her first lesson at Caboolture she knew exactly where her destiny lay.

She started in the industry apprx 3 years ago when Michelle from The Sunshine Coast Patchwork & Sewing Centre offered her a position.  After working in finance and admin for the previous 10yrs, she had a huge wake up call and learnt so much in a short period of time.  She loved what she was doing so much that it didn’t take long before she was teaching and managing the shop.  Over that time she has taught machine embroidery, software, machine know how and much more.

She has been fortunate that she has had the opportunity to sell and teach all brands of machines and has attended the last three years of quilt shows representing VSM (which is Husqvarna & Pfaff).  She believes in stepping outside the box and challenging her students to do the same.

Although her own education has been across the board she admits to an obsession with Machine embroidery and she is looking to sharing her passion with you all.

We are sure that Cath – as your new Embroidery Club Presenter for 2010 will keep you challenged!

Lizzy Allen

Lizzy Allen, a Jenny Haskin’s accreditted teacher, visitted us with Floriani in October and ran 2 hands-on workshops.  Lizzy brought with her not only her enormous embroidery tallent, but also her great story telling as she ran through Jenny Haskin’s Floating Diamonds.  Everyone had a great time creating this cutwork piece and we were happy to see so many smiling faces while they were sewing.  And speaking of Jenny Haskins, we only have a handful of her latest book, Galleria of Machine Artistry, left on the shelf.  Currently sold out on her website, call us if you want us to hold one for you.
