Urban Zündt, was born in 1960 and is the son of Felix Zündt a pioneer of textile and embroidery design. Inheriting his father’s imagination and creative drive, and channelling the iconic style of St Gallon embroidery, Urban Zündt’s embroidery designs have forged a reputation of elegance, intricacy and quality.

At the young age of twenty Urban joined Atelier Zündt (known in Australia as Zündt Designs) and brought with him the fresh new ideas of the younger generation. In the past the company only designed, punched and dispatched pattern collections, then Urban introduced multi-head embroidery machines to allow Atelier Zündt to produce their designs themselves. This led to the creation of a new branch of business which immediately blossomed and flourished.

With now near endless opportunities, Altelier Zündt’s creations became as unique as they were varied, with contracts including the supply of the majority of embroidered emblems to the Swiss Army and ground-braking new concepts like the application of delicate coloured embroidery to sheer ladies tights. “Up to now, we are the only company in the world able to do that…it took endless technical innovations…before we finally succeeded.”

Urban’s work has developed an enormous following in Australia. Its elegant yet contemporary designs appeal to all ages of embroiderer and the dependable quality of every stitch guarantee a result that will stand out amongst its peers.

Tracey Sims is an award winning artist with over 30 years experience. Her painting skills have enabled her to create a unique style combining the features of fine art and decorative painting. Her elegantly patterned and textured backgrounds enhance the richly coloured flora, fauna and still life elements which feature in Tracey’s artwork.

As a respected teacher of art, Tracey has been conducting classes and workshops for over 20 years. She has travelled extensively throughout Australia conducting workshops in oil, acrylic and watercolour. Tracey has also taught in England, Ireland, the US, Singapore and New Zealand. Her paintings have been sold both within Australia and overseas to private collectors and corporate buyers. As a published author Tracey has written seven decorative painting books, four of which were published in Australia and three in America, and she has also contributed many articles and projects for painting magazines in Australia and the U.S.. In 2008, Tracey was one of three Australian artists commissioned to paint a project for the Decorative Arts Collection Museum in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. She has also designed for Painted Planet Licensing Group in the US and is a senior supporting artist for Chroma Australia in their Teacher and Artists Partner Programme.

Combining her passion for painting and patchwork Tracey has created a beautiful collection of fine art prints on fabric. The range includes flora and fauna designs that can be used as features in a variety of projects. The fabric prints are also ideal for embellishment with beading and embroidery. These prints are available for purchase individually or as part of a kit. Kits include both the instructions and the relevant fine art fabric prints. Several of Tracey’s quilts have been featured in Patchwork & Quilting magazines.

Now Tracey has taken the next step with textile art and, collaborating with respected embroidery digitizer Urban Zundt, her work is now available in machine embroidery designs. This is an exciting development for Tracey, giving exposure of her art to a whole new world of design enthusiasts.

Merry, friendly and passionate about their inventions, Ann Duncan and Kym Graham introduced the innovative Sewing Revolution concept in 2001.

From their experience in the sewing industry, Ann and Kym recognised a common frustration when sewing with circular placement, so they set about trying to find an easy way to locate the centre point of circles and arcs when circular sewing. Necessity is the mother of all invention, and as a pair of lateral thinkers and problem solvers, Ann and Kym put their heads together and came up with The Sewing Revolution. Painstakingly developing prototypes to meet their needs, the pair eventually gained an international patent, an expensive investment for any starter concept, but Ann and Kym’s firm faith in their products drove them to pursue it. The end result was not only a triumph for the pair, and a testament to the ingenuity of the Australian sewing industry, it caused a stir that stimulated world-wide interest.

“First we took a compass and piece of Vilene and started drawing circles. Next, we went to a plastics manufacturer and had a round circle made with 45 degree angles and holes made in it,” Ann explains. “After that was made, we discovered the possibilities of positioning embroidery. Following even more research and testing we had a 13″ inch wheel prototype made with 45 degree and 60 degree lines so that it could be used by patchworkers.”

Freeing embroidery designs from the confines of being placed in boring square configurations, the Sewing Revolution concept gives almost limitless design position possibilities. These well defined templates allow creations using circular, diagonal, triangular, eliptical and polygon shaped layouts without complex calculations. The end result is evenly spaced designs on any scale of size. Pair them up with the detailed instruction books, diverse patterns and the continually expanding range of helper tools such as the Double Mitre Ruler and the Bind Aid, and creativity is virtually effortless.
